Cottage In Old Donegal Karaoke

Irish Traditional

LåttextCottage In Old Donegal

As I stood

all alone

in a bar room

one day

In a far off

American town

Just dreaming and

passing the long

hours away

Awaiting my drink

to come round

When something

stood deep

in my heart

at the view

Of a picture that

hung on the wall

Twas a dear

Irish homestead

so charming and true

just a cottage

in old Donegal

It brought back the

joy of a bright Irish day

the memories still

in my mind

When a bare-footed

boy dreamt the

long hours away

only peace and

contentment to find

But in search of a

living I had to stray

an immigrant boy

got his call

As I left my dear Mother

and sailed far away

from my cottage

in old Donegal

And now in life's

Autumn my race

almost run

Too plainly this

story is told

The long years

have passed and

the Mother is gone

And left me

forgotten

and old

Though the primrose

will bloom in the

cool leafy lanes

The cukoos in

springtime will call

Where the kindly

green moss hides

the hollow remains

of the cottage in

old Donegal

I fled from the bar

room the smoke

and the haze

My feelings I

could not disguise

From a bar man

who looked with

a questioning gaze

At the

tears streaming

down from

my eyes

In a Church on the

corner I knelt

down to pray

My voice sounding

humble and small

God bless you my

homeland and guard

you each day

every cottage in

old Donegal
