About Spinners

Located in the heart of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Spinners Maroochydore is a unique entertainment venue that blends retro charm with a lively atmosphere. Featuring pool tables, six bowling lanes, a fully stocked bar, and a private karaoke room, Spinners delivers a nostalgic dive-bar experience with black lighting and vintage aesthetics. Conveniently located near Ocean Street’s buzzing nightlife, it has been a go-to spot for seven years.

The karaoke room at Spinners is an extension of the venue’s signature style, with black walls, neon lighting, and a cozy carpeted floor that enhance its immersive, old-school vibe. Rather than using digital menus or QR codes for ordering, Spinners adds a fun twist with a giant, illuminated red button—just press it, and a staff member arrives to take your order.

At $50 AUD per hour, the karaoke room is designed to drive food and drink sales, making it a key revenue stream for the venue. Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest, accounting for 70% of total revenue, with a noticeable uptick in party bookings during peak seasons like Christmas. The addition of karaoke has also attracted larger corporate and social groups, solidifying Spinners Maroochydore as a must-visit destination for a night of entertainment.

Why karaoke?

The decision on building a karaoke room at Spinners Maroochydore was a strategic move aimed at solving a key challenge — customers leaving the venue during peak hours while waiting for bowling lanes or pool tables to become available. Rather than letting them sit idly or, worse, leave, the team sought a more interactive experience that would encourage guests to stay longer, socialize, and spend more.

A karaoke room proved to be the perfect solution. With a capacity of 10–12 people, it ensured larger groups remained engaged for extended periods—naturally driving higher food and beverage sales. It also introduced a new revenue stream, making Spinners more appealing for parties and group events.

The inspiration to build the karaoke room came together in just three weeks. A rapid turnaround fueled by Phil's knowledge of working in bigger corporations where stuff always took so long to get done provided him with the challenge to get the karaoke room done in three weeks. After researching online he came in contact with Singa and received guidance from the Singa team on what were the necessary equipment.

The end goal for them was having a setup that was self-explanatory and did not require much guidance for users, and Singa features fit the need. The space they turned into a karaoke room was before centered with two NBA arcade games and they had to build walls to create that area of the venue to a karaoke room. Other than building the karaoke room with walls, soundproofing & furniture, they also bought a TV, speakers, wireless microphones, mixer and an iPad as they didn’t have the necessary hardware equipment from before.

Once the hardware arrived the Singa staff was fast with setting up their license and an onboarding with the staff to understand how the features work. Phil also mentioned they received lots of guidelines, videos & help articles on how to get started. Building the karaoke room within three weeks worked very smoothly for them as they didn’t have any significant resource challenges faced during the three weeks. Phil and his team were able to DIY most of the work, from plastering to installing equipment, while bringing in tradespeople like carpenters and electricians for the more specialized tasks.

In just three weeks, Spinners successfully launched a fully functional karaoke room, adding a fresh, interactive entertainment option that has since become a key attraction for partygoers and casual visitors alike.

Why Singa?

When selecting a karaoke provider, Phil wanted a karaoke software that prioritized a commercial-grade solution that was built for business use. He found Singa having a good library size and was more geared towards a commercial enterprise, making it a solid choice for his needs. Singa’s user interface for karaoke rooms, the simplicity to use and select songs & creating playlists are the features Phil & the staff love the most with the software.
