Ah Tim Finnegan lived in Walken' Street
A gentleman Irishman mighty odd
He had a brogue so soft and sweet
And to rise in the world he carried the hod
But Tim had a bit of a tipplers way
For the love of the liquor now he was born
To send him on with his work each day
Had a "drop of the cray-chur" every morn
Whack fol the da O, dance to your partner
Welt the floor, your trotters shake
Isn't it the truth I tell you?
Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake!
One mornin' Tim felt rather full
His head felt heavy which made him shake
He fell from a ladder and he broke his skull
And they carried him home his corpse to wake
Wrapped him up in a nice clean sheet
And they Laid him out upon the bed
With A barrel of whiskey at his feet
And A barrel of porter at his head
Whack fol the da O, dance to your partner
Welt the floor, your trotters shake
Isn't it the truth I tell you?
Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake!
Wll his friends assembled at the wake
And Mrs. Finnegan called for lunch
Well First she brought them tea and cake
Then pipes, tobacco and Brandy punch
Biddy O'Brien began to cry
"Such a nice clean corpse, did you ever see?
Oh Tim mavournin, why did you die?"
Will ya hold ya gob said Molly Mcgee
Whack fol the da O, dance to your partner
Welt the floor, your trotters shake
Isn't it the truth I tell you?
Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake!
Well, Mary Murphy took up the job
"Ah Biddy," says she, "You're wrong, I'm sure"
Well Biddy she fetched her a belt in the gob
And left her sprawlin' on the floor
Well civil war well did engage
Woman to woman and man to man
Shillelagh-law was all the rage
And a row and a ruction soon began
Whack fol the da O, dance to your partner
Welt the floor, your trotters shake
Isnt it the truth I tell you?
Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake!
Well Mick Maloney dusked his head
When a bottle of whiskey flew at him
He ducked and landing on the bed
The whiskey scattered over Tim!
Oh bedad he revives and see how he rises
Tim Finnegan risin' in the bed
Sayin', "Twiddle your whiskey around like blazes
Thunderin' Jaysus! Do you thunk I'm dead?"
Whack fol the da O, dance to your partner
Welt the floor, your trotters shake
Isn't it the truth I tell you?
Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake!
