Karaoke Games for the Nintendo Switch
Since the introduction in 2017 the Nintendo Switch has secured its spot among the most popular and beloved gaming consoles. And it's easy to see why. The modular system allows for gaming while you're on the road. With the designated docking station it is extremely easy to connect the Nintendo Switch with your TV at the comfort of your own home and play your favourite games on the big screen. Many probably remember the good old Sing Star days and ask themselves: Does Nintendo Switch have karaoke?
Yes, though not many games. We have compiled a list with all available karaoke games for your Nintendo Switch. Though there are some even better alternatives for your karaoke session. Let's dive straight into it!
Let's Sing 2023
Let's Sing 2023, is a reissue of the arguably most popular singing game for the Nintendo Switch offers a total of 30 songs for newbies and advanced karaoke stars to sing at home. The list contains a mixture of current pop-hits and well-known evergreens like "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne. Furthermore you have the option to choose between different game modes, like singing locally with your friends or challenging a stranger online. The Mode "Mixtape 2.0" combines several songs into a medley so it won't get boring with 30 songs.
In order to actually use the games full potential however, you have to purchase an additional microphone that connects with your console. For everyone who rather wants to save a couple of bucks Let's Sing offers an app free of charge, so that you can use your smartphone as a microphone. If 30 songs aren't enough for your karaoke heart there is the possibility to purchase and download additional song packages. Furthermore you can also try out the special editions like Let's Sing Abba, Let's Sing Queen, Let's Sing Country or Let's Sing Classic Rock. And if you're still not hoarse after this you can always rekindle the old Let's Sing Versions from 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
The Voice of Germany: The Official Video Game
Other than the various Let's Sing games, there are not many karaoke games on Nintendo Switch. Though if you are open to a mix of English and German songs, the same developer that brought us the Let's Sing series published another singing game for the Nintendo Switch which is based closely on the TV Show The Voice. The official video game offers a list of 30 songs that you can either perform alone or with your friends.
In contrast to the previously mentioned game, this one offers the possibility to challenge yourself with the game format we all know so well from television. To do so, you simply chose a song from the list and perform it for the jury. If you're good enough, and we know you are, one of the coaches will turn around and you advance to the next stage, the battle.
At this stage you sing against a competitor while trying to persuade the coaches of your superior talent. The caveat: you can only choose between two songs now! If you sing better than your opponent you will advance to the live show where you will have to choose between to songs again before advancing to the finale. In this last phase you can now again select a song from the complete list of 30.
In between rounds you have the chance to rehearse before going on stage. Furthermore, you can, similar to Let's Sing, play locally with your friends, given you have enough microphones. The game also offers the option to swap your mic for your smartphone. However, it is a different app from the one you use for Let's Sing although both games are from the same developer.
Nintendo Switch Karaoke Alternative
So there are actually only two distinct karaoke games for the Nintendo Switch, and both come from the same developer. The different Let's Sing versions from the last 5 years don't differ greatly with regard to the karaoke experience. The games mostly differ in the songs available and the in-game avatars that you can use to personalize your game.
The biggest shortcoming however is the relatively small song library. If you want to sing more than the already included 35 songs, you have to purchase additional song packages, which can get very expensive rather quickly with each addition costing between $30-60.
It is also not possible to search for single songs or to buy only one song from a pack of five. At this moment it does not seem as if the developers are planning to change their business model. Therefore the only option remaining for karaoke fans is to purchase the "new" games each year. This is not only a pity because you have to continuously spend money but also because you might have to wait for quite a long time to karaoke your new favorite song. If that song will be added to the catalogue at all.
Singa Karaoke
A great alternative to the karaoke games introduced here however, is Singa. The biggest advantage is the huge library of thousand and thousands of songs in many different languages. And the best thing is that the library gets updated continuously. So you won't have to wait long until your new favourite jam will be available as a karaoke version! Singa might not be available for the nintendo switch but it is just as portable as the console itself.
You can use Singa either with our app on your smartphone or use the desktop version on your PC or Mac. This way you can start your own karaoke party whenever you want, wherever you want. And if you prefer to sing at home you can easily build your own karaoke set-up. Almost every smartphone nowadays is equipped with a function called "screen mirroring". Using this function allows you to display your phone screen on your TV so that lyrics will be much easier to read. If you are using a laptop, simply connect it with an HDMI cable to boost audio and sound quality. This is already enough to reach the same karaoke experience as with a Nintendo Switch.
Opting for Singa also gives you the opportunity to invest the money you saved on Nintendo Games in better microphones and mixers. For all of you interested in going down this path we provide a step by step guide on how to set up your own karaoke station at home here.
There are two options remaining for Nintendo Switch users who are also karaoke fans. You can either buy a new Let's Sing iteration each year, i.e. 30 songs, or you switch to Singa and get instant access to an enormous catalogue of awesome songs. You don't have to switch from the Switch entirely of course because you can even try Singa for free! So we are giving you the chance to check out Singa tentatively while convincing yourself of our great range of songs.
